Grandpa Scherping I remember well. I can still remember the smell of his pipe even though it has been 30 years since he passed on. I remember that he still had a full head of hair and that it had very little gray in it even though he was in his eighties. I remember he always volunteered to walk to the store and get what mother needed. And she always had to tell me not to spoil us kids by buying candy or treats for us while he was there. Grandpa was born Herman Augusta Scherping in Saginaw, MI on August 30, 1874. He died in Grand Haven, MI on January 8, 1958.
Ethel was married to Alex Csutoras and then somewhere around 1917 he disappeared. We were told that we died. Grandma married again and again. Unusual for that period in time. She died in 1948 in Caro, Michigan as Mrs. Earl Holden.
